Sunray was formed in 1991 by Jon Chambers and John Lewis. In 1993 Sunray made their debut appearance at London's Vertigo Club. The show, recorded by Ivor Trueman of Freakbeat Magazine and Delerium Records, was later released as 'Incantation Live'.
In 1995, shortly before Lewis left the band to record sound for television and film, Acid Tapes released Sunray's 'Dreamachine Music' EP. The main track was subsequently re-recorded by Chambers and mixed by Sonic Boom at GCS, Rugby, in 1999.
Released as a one-sided 12" on Earworm Records, 'Music for the Dreamachine' secured stateside airplay and featured in the film 'Andy Warhol: the Complete Picture'.
During 2000 and 2001, Chambers recorded new Sunray material including the Earworm single 'Shake It'.
An LP collection of Sunray tracks 'Retrospective in Stereo' appeared in October 2004, followed by an epic cover of the Velvet Underground's 'Ocean' featuring Sonic Boom, released as a 12" EP on the Earworm Gold label.
Sunray's second LP 'Tomorrow' appeared in May 2007 with widespread critical acclaim ensuring a greater audience for the band's experimental sound. Chambers followed the LP with a variety of projects including Sunray's 'Halogen Melody' (an 8" lathe-cut release), a remix of the Oscillation track 'Lost in Your Soul' and material for the 'Baby Honey' EP, which was released November 2010.
Most recently Sunray recorded a version of 'Zona Rose', to be featured on a forthcoming tribute album for the Gun Club's Jeffrey Lee Pierce. Due for release in March 2011, the LP also features Primal Scream, Debbie Harry and Nick Cave.
Sunray are currently recording material for their third LP due out late 2011.
